Why business to business sales?

February 14th, 2010 -

Business to business sales is a great way for a graduate to launch their corporate career. In a B2B sales role graduates will be working with the sales and marketing director and they will get to know the company’s products and services, and also their key clients.

Without B2B sales a company will fail to produce revenue and therefore cease to exist at all. B2B sales is imperative to any organisation and will give a graduate the opportunity to work on the front line and earn high levels of respect, by driving new business opportunities and carrying a high level of responsibility.

There are many pro’s in B2B sales and the main one is money. There is high earning potential in sales. Another great sales advantage is the high rewards and getting recognition from senior management. This type of role also will expose a graduate to high level business conversations and give envied access to senior management.

Do you need a degree to secure a job?

February 10th, 2010 -

The job market is highly competitive, as many of you may know, and there has been many a talk about whether or not you need a degree to secure yourself a job.

Miriam Salpeter, who wrote the article, “How important is a college degree for your job prospects?” says the way you present yourself in an interview is more important than having an academic transcript to your name. “No matter how ‘qualified’ you are, knowing how to market your qualifications is much more crucial. Your ability to connect your skills and accomplishments to an organization’s needs will be just as important as actually having the basic qualifications.”

However there are a few companies that will not even see you if you do not have a degree. Have you ever considered taking up a University course or even a tafe course?

If you do not have a degree don’t give up looking! Be willing to start at the bottom and work your way up in a company and you never know where that could lead you! A willing and positive attitude goes a long way.

What not to do in an interview

February 9th, 2010 -

First impressions count! So it’s important to conduct yourself in a manner that is appropriate.

·         Don’t be late! Punctuality is important

·         Don’t chew gum. The worst thing would be for it to fall out onto your CV and hand it to the potential employer. Here you can view some more of the embarrassing moments our grads have experienced during an interview – feel free to share.

·         Don’t dress casually! I know we all like to try to abide by the saying ‘Don’t judge a book by its cover,’ but what you wear and how you present yourself is of utmost importance in an interview. If it is for a corporate company wear a suit. Make sure you remove all piercings, wear minimal jewelry, and are cleanly shaven if you are a male. If you do not own a suit wear a nice skirt and blouse or dress pants and a shirt.

·         Don’t be shy. Even if you are a quite achiever in the interview you need to sell yourself! Be confident and speak up.

We wish you all the best and happy job hunting!

What exactly is a career in sales?

September 9th, 2009 -

ProGrad have a core activity in placing graduates into business to business sales roles across a variety of industries….but what exactly is a sales job?  Is it all about telemarketing and knocking on doors?

In a word…no.  Its not about that at all.  Many people have an exposure to selling at an early age, when sitting at home hearing parents tell the telemarketer to “bugger off”.  That is what is called “business-to-consumer sales”, and is not our core activity at ProGrad.

Business to business sales is essential for all companies.  Every organisation will have overheads (think about office costs, staffing costs, bills etc) and to cover these costs (and make some profit) they need to sell.  Easy.

Everything around you is sold from one business to another.  Look in a magazine, and you’ll see advertising.  That advertising was sold business to business.  At ProGrad, we utilise technology systems and telecommunications equipment.  That was all sold to us from another business.

When you visit a retail outlet to do some grocery shopping, the merchandise has likely come from another business.  When you go to the pharmacy, and pick up your prescriptions…they were sold business to business.

It truly is overwhelming, and just goes to show that businesses NEED to sell.  All corporations need to sell their services or products in order to sustain turnover.  It is the most important facet of any company…and one could argue, the most important department to be working within.

Many of the senior management teams of organisations (large and small) will have started their career in business to business sales.  Where better to learn the fundamentals of buying and sales cycles, than in the role yourself.

At ProGrad, we work with over 500 companies and the majority of our roles are within B2B sales.  These roles offer candidates an ideal grounding to launch into management roles or other areas within the business.  That said, when you’re one of the highest earners in the business, its hard to understand why you’d want to move to another department!
