Feeling a little helpless just after graduating?

February 14th, 2010 -

Some people graduate University and discover that what they have been studying for the last four years is not the direction they want to head in life at all.

We have heard this story numerous times so at ProGrad so we do not assess people on their degree and what they passed and failed, but rather on the key competencies that they show as a person.

If you think that you are a graduate who is ambitious, confident, and has excellent written and verbal communication skills then we will have the position for you!

The positions ProGrad offer are in business to business sales with great earning potential and bonus packages.

ProGrad is Australia’s leading assessment, training and placement company for graduate students.

If you would like to know more about what ProGrad has to offer you can contact Nicola directly at nicola.christoffersen@prograd.com.au or on (02) 8235 8300

Why business to business sales?

February 14th, 2010 -

Business to business sales is a great way for a graduate to launch their corporate career. In a B2B sales role graduates will be working with the sales and marketing director and they will get to know the company’s products and services, and also their key clients.

Without B2B sales a company will fail to produce revenue and therefore cease to exist at all. B2B sales is imperative to any organisation and will give a graduate the opportunity to work on the front line and earn high levels of respect, by driving new business opportunities and carrying a high level of responsibility.

There are many pro’s in B2B sales and the main one is money. There is high earning potential in sales. Another great sales advantage is the high rewards and getting recognition from senior management. This type of role also will expose a graduate to high level business conversations and give envied access to senior management.

ProGrad is Australia’s leading assessment, training and placement company for graduate students. Sourcing the top 4% of graduates, and placing them in business to business sales roles in a whole variety of sectors. Some of these include;

Media/Advertising/Marketing

IT/Telecommunications

FMCG

What to expect at a ProGrad assessment day

February 14th, 2010 -

The graduates that have passed the telephone interview and are fortunate enough to attend a ProGrad assessment day will be assessed on key competencies that will be suitable for a Business to Business sales role.

Graduates will be assessed as soon as they walk through the door on:

·         The way they present themselves. It is important that you wear corporate attire. It is a formal business interview so please wear a suit or dress pants/skirt and a shirt.

·         The way they introduce themselves to the other graduates on the day. You will have your chance to introduce yourself to the group. Here it is important to be confident!

·         During the group games it is important that you show that you can work in a team environment and make sure you get involved!

·         Then it is time for your 3 minute presentation. Once again we are looking for confident candidates. Believe in what you are presenting to us and go for your life! It is a good idea to put your speech onto palm cards to assist you but to also make you look well prepared!

How good do you want to be?

February 10th, 2010 -

How well do you want to do in your current job? How far would you like to go in your career? Paul Arden explains anything is possible in his book, ‘It’s not how good you are, it’s how good you want to be.’

‘You can achieve the unachievable’ – Paul Arden

ProGrad’s advice – Go for it. Set yourself a goal or something that you want to achieve in your life and make it your reality.

‘If you think you’re unable to work for the best company in its sphere, make that your aim…If you think you’re unable to make the cover of Time magazine, make it your business to be there.’ – Paul Arden

Make this your life motto: Anything is possible and do what you have set out to do.

Part Two: The ProGrad journey – 9am sleep ins forever gone

February 10th, 2010 -

After starting full time work I have discovered, much to my distress, there will never be another 9am sleep-in. During University it was my number one rule never to wake while it was still dark outside. I even structured my classes so I could party all night and have my much desired sleep-in.

After work during the week I was anticipating my sleep- in Saturday morning, and do you know what time I woke up?..6am!!! This was not acceptable I forced my eyes shut and slipped into a dream only to awaken an hour and a half later. That’s it, I’ve given up. My once lovely 9am start is now 7:30.

Don’t get me wrong I love working full time, and wouldn’t change it for the world (well maybe if I won the lotto), but I miss snuggling into those sheets and not waking to see the sun rise.

Look out for PART THREE of my Prograd journey.

People to people – how to effectively network

February 10th, 2010 -

Networking is essential for business success. Networking can land you that client that you have been working hard to crack for months and create endless business opportunities.

But don’t wait to start your career to network. The key to effective networking is to start now! Everyone should be seen as a potential contact. Go out and meet people and build your contact list.

There is a perfect example and opportunity to network at ProGrad’s assessment days and it’s FREE! Think about it. You are in the room with another 39 graduates all who are going places in their life. Even if candidates on the day do not make it through a ProGrad assessment day, they still have the drive and ambition to attend and do their best. Although they may not be what ProGrad was looking for on the day, they can take the experience and job hunting advice and be exceptional in another interview they attend.

Who knows where all the graduates will end up in their life in 5 years time. And in five years who knows how these graduates can help you. You may be looking to start a new job; someone that was at your ProGrad assessment day may be the hiring manager, or you may need to get into contact with a high profile executive for an interview and someone that came through the ProGrad assessment day with you might work for that same company and can get you a face to face interview. The possibilities are endless. So don’t miss the opportunity to network on a ProGrad assessment day! Get people’s Facebook address and stay in contact.

Part One: The ProGrad Journey

February 10th, 2010 -
As you can read here, I have recently come aboard with the ProGrad team, after completing one of their assessment days. You can read about my experience with ProGrad’s assessment day here.

Being a recent University graduate myself I have found that the transition from University to full time work takes some time getting used to!

I will be sharing my experiences about working on the ProGrad team, the transition process and the delights and struggles of working full time.

You are more than welcome to contribute by commenting and letting me know if you have had similar experiences or how you are coping with full time work after University. Is it what you expected?

Make sure you look out for PART TWO of my ProGrad journey.

Prograd update: The buzz around google

February 10th, 2010 -

At ProGrad we know the importance of keeping up with technology. Not only have we been brought up with technology but we know how ProGrad graduates can use their tech savvy minds to their own advantage.

Entering the workforce with so much online knowledge can only benefit an organisation and potentially get you hired over that 40-something year old who has never even heard of Facebook.

ProGrad would like to keep you informed on the latest in the online social realm, and what we have stumbled accross is Google Buzz.

Google Buzz is Google Inc’s version of Facebook. It is developed through Google’s Gmail and it is here that people can post updates, similar to twitter, but choose if they would like to share it with the rest of the world or with a select number of people.

Google Buzz also has a mobile phone application and already teamed with google chat, it mirrors both Twitter and Facebook. Both with which ProGrad are a part of.

Will you get on board with this new social phenomenon?

Stick around to hear feedback from ProGrad on how easy and useful Google Buzz actually is as I will try and construct my own Google Buzz site and post you the updates.

If you would like to know more about ProGrad and what ProGrad has to offer you can visit us at www.prograd.com.au or contact ProGrad directly on (02) 8235 8300
